Arsenal captain admits he wants to leave the club

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabergas has today admitted he would like to leave the club once his current contract runs out at the club. The Spanish international has been repeatedly link with a move to La Liga giants Barcelona over the past 18 months, however it now appears as though they will have to wait until 2014 to sign the player.

Fabregas, 21, was recently handed the captain’s armband at the Emirates following William Gallas’ negative comments regarding his team-mates. The former Barcelona youth player had this to say about a possible move back to the Catalan giants : “Right now I am very happy and very motivated and to be captain is an even bigger incentive. At some time I would like to return to Spanish football. It is an experience that I would want some time it in the future.

Fabergas went on to say : “The idea has always been the same, I signed a very long contract but what happens is that in football nobody has a guaranteed position anywhere.” I feel once Fabregas does eventually leave the Premier League it will be a massive loss for the English game. He has undoubtedly been one of the best players in the league over the past two years or so and I think Arsene Wenger will have his work cut out to find a player to replace him. Ah well, he has about five years to do so.

Wouldn’t you just love to have Fabregas in your starting eleven? Well here’s your chance. Fabregas costs just £7 million in this season’s “You the Manager” and in my view is a definite bargain. Italian giants prepare sensible £5 million for Arsenal ace

AC Milan are preparing £5 million bid for Arsenal defender William Gallas when the January transfer window opens. The Italian giants are keen to bolster their defensive options and are now looking to bring Gallas to the San Siro after his recent troubles at the Emirates.

The French international was recently stripped of the captaincy after he made comments about his fellow team mates. The North London club have since given Cesc Fabregas the armband and although Gallas returned for the side’s 1-0 win over Dynamo Kiev in midweek, his future still remains unclear.

Arsene Wenger signed the 31-year old back in 2006 as part of the deal that took Ashley Cole to Chelsea. Since then Gallas has gone on to make over 60 appearances for Arsenal, scoring 8 times in the process. He has also been linked with a move back to France, where he began his career, however AC are determined to bring him to Italy.

As far as I see it, Gallas will not be a Arsenal player come February 1st. Even though Wenger and his agent have said he still has a future at the club, I personally feel the damage has been done and he will be gone once the window opens. If Arsenal do sell him, they will definitely have to go out into the market and find a new centre-back.

Arsenal’s title ambitions already dead after another defeat

Arsenal’s chances of winning the Premier League have today been dealt a massive blow. Arsene Wenger’s men were beaten 2-0 by Aston Villa at the Emirates this afternoon, a defeat which leaves them nine points behind leaders Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table.

Martin O’Neill’s
men made their intentions clear from the off, with Ashley Young forcing Manuel Almunia into action with less than a minute on the clock. Villa defender Curtis Davies kept the sides level when he made a outstanding clearance off the line from a Cesc Fabregas shot.

The away side were awarded a penalty just five minutes later when Theo Walcott was penalised for bringing down Young in the Arsenal penalty area. Young took the penalty himself, however he saw his effort saved by Almunia which saw the sides go in level at the break.

Villa took the lead with 20 minutes left on the clock. Ashley Young whipped in a beautiful ball from the right and saw Gunners defender Gael Clichy put it into his own net. Arsenal were nearly level moments later when Emmanuel Adebayor headed onto the post but Villa then managed to clear.

The visitors wrapped up all three points with just 10 minutes remaining. Gabriel Agbonlahor slotting home from the edge of the area to send the away fans home very happy indeed. Although we are only thirteen games into the season, I firmly believe Arsenal’s chances of winning the title have ended today. Credit has to go to Villa who went to win the game, not just sit back and try and snatch a point.

Elsewhere in the Premier League it finished : Bolton 0-2 Liverpool, Fulham 2-1 Tottenham, Blackburn 1-2 Sunderland, Newcastle 2-2 Wigan, West Ham 0-0 Portsmouth, Man United 5-0 Stoke City.
