There are several obvious candidates. The likes of Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate or Manchester City manager Mark Hughes are definitely in there but who do you think will be next to go? The poll can be found at the top right of the site. Place your votes now.

It’s only a matter of time before Adams is on his way out of Fratton Park

After yet another Premier League defeat it would appear as though Tony Adams’ days as Portsmouth boss are numbered. It has been reported tonight that the former Arsenal defender will be sacked on Monday morning after Pompey lost 3-2 at home to Liverpool on Saturday which was the side’s ninth game without a victory.

Portsmouth have been tumbling down the table ever since Harry Redknapp left the club back in October of last year. Adams was almost instantly appointed as Redknapp’s predecessor and unfortunately for him it really hasn’t worked out. Pompey now sit just a point above the drop zone and are in real danger of being relegated.

Earlier this week it was reported in an English newspaper that Alan Curbishley was being lined up to replace Adams on the South Coast and personally, that wouldn’t surprise me one bit. Curbishley has been out of a job for some time now and I think it is the right time for him to go back into management.

This is probably the best for everyone. It was clear for all to see that Adams didn’t get on too well with his players. The departures of Lassana Diarra and Jermain Defoe last month proved this and maybe bringing in a new manager will prove to be a massive boost for the club. It will be interesting to see how this one pans out over the next few days so stay tuned to Football Corner for all the latest.

Yet another player leaves Upton Park

Julien Faubert has today become the latest player to leave West Ham this month after he agreed to join Real Madrid on a 5-month loan deal. The French international has failed to make an impact at Upton Park after signing for the Hammers back in 2007 and the club have now decided to let him join Real on loan with a view to making the deal permanent.

It is understood that the Spanish giants have paid West Ham £1.5 million for the loan deal and they will have to pay an additional £4.5 million in the summer if they want to make it permanent. Faubert, 25, made just over 30 appearances for West Ham during his time at the club, which was marred by an achillies injury which he suffered just weeks after signing.

Not a bad bit of business by West Ham. They recieve nearly £2 million for a player that has done, lets be honest, nothing since arriving in the Premier League. I am sure all Hammers fans will be hoping that Gianfranco Zola goes out and buys another midfield player before the transfer window closes on Monday because they could really use another player in that department.

Stay tuned to Football Corner for all the latest transfer news over the coming days.

Spurs ready to join Wigan in the race to sign £5 million midfielder

Wigan are set to be joined by Tottenham in the race to sign Reading midfielder Stephen Hunt. The Republic of Ireland international is likely to leave the Madjeski before the transfer window closes on Monday evening after it was revealed that any club who wanted to sign him only had to cough up £5 million.

Hunt is widely regarded as one of the best players currently playing in the Championship and both Steve Bruce and Harry Redknapp have been impressed with the 27-year old. It is understood that Hunt is keen to move back up to the Premier League after being relegated with Reading last season.

I have always been a massive fan of Hunt’s and I think he would be a quality signing for either Wigan or Spurs. Wigan have let go of a few key players in recent weeks and I feel they will be desperate to bring Hunt to the JJB as soon as possible. On the other hand, Spurs could really use a left-sided midfielder right now and I think Hunt would be the perfect candidate to arrive at White Hart Lane.

Stay tuned to Football Corner for all the latest developments on this and much more in the coming days.
